I'm More!

"MORE". That's a word we all like to hear. Especially when it applies to our future, our jobs, our circle of friends, or our community. At CACIL we're in the business of creating more, through unique partnerships with individuals and organizations who also aspire to greater things.

Our Services:

Transportation

Capital Area Center for Independent Living has certified every individual with a disability to use the para transit system using an application and criteria developed by CACIL and 10 other human service agencies for the past 21 years. Last year we certified 1,378 individuals. We also support people with disabilities by providing information on other local transportation options.

Housing

Our goal is to connect people with disabilities to affordable, accessible housing of their choice. This includes identifying personal and financial needs, collaborating with other agencies, and advocating for legislation and local support to improve housing options in our community.

Employment

CACIL provides pre-vocational skill training for our consumers referred to CACIL by other human service agencies. We support workers in searching for jobs, setting goals, requesting accommodations, and retaining jobs. On the employer side, we offer accessibility reviews, ADA consultation and coaching, employee retention services, and diversity/inclusiveness staff development.

Accessibility

We strive to make all places, services, and information accessible to everyone in our community, including people with disabilities. CACIL maintains two trained teams, each headed by and ADA specialist, to respond to questions about the accessibility of buildings and public areas and provides detailed suggestions for appropriate, affordable ways to remove existing barriers.

Rehabilitation Nursing

CACIL is unique in having two rehabilitation nurses that not only consult with MRS on complex cases but also educate consumers on how to live successfully with a disability.

Assistive Technology

Our adaptive software computer training program has many variable components that can be pieced together to suit the changing needs of consumers. Whether your goal is to learn how to use the computer for the first time, build your basic skills or train in advanced level programs, the world is made accessible through our CACIL computer programming. Training includes, Jaws Basic Training, Zoom Text/Magic Basic Training, Basic Computer, Basic Keyboarding, MS Word, Exploring the Web, The Internet and Email, Online Banking and Shopping, Excel and Access.

CACIL Pals

The "Count Me In" puppets are 3-foot tall hand and rod puppets representing various racial, ethnic and disability groups. They are available for school functions and disability awareness programs. "Count Me In" helps pre-school age children understand and be more comfortable around people with disabilities.

Support Services

As a resource hub for people with disabilities and their families, we advocate for the many different supports people need to live as independently as possible. Tailored to the individual, these supports may include case facilitation, living arrangements, mental health services, transportation, life planning, and respite care.
